To Fulfil Your Dreams, All it Takes, Really, is Pressure, and Time

In The Shawshank Redemption, Red tells the story of how Andy Dufresne escaped prison.

In 1966, Andy Dufresne escaped from Shawshank prison. All they found of him was a muddy set of prison clothes, a bar of soap, and an old rock hammer, damn near worn down to the nub. I remember thinking it would take a man six hundred years to tunnel through the wall with it. Old Andy did it in less than twenty. Oh, Andy loved geology. I imagine it appealed to his meticulous nature. An ice age here, million years of mountain building there. Geology is the study of pressure and time. That’s all it takes really, pressure, and time.

And that’s all there is to success in any endeavour. Pressure and time.

I’ve been working on becoming a freelance writer for years, and now it is finally starting to happen. Why now when, at times I despaired, thinking there was no way it would ever happen.

Because last summer I took Ben Settle’s advice to sack up and do it. There were fits and starts, and fights with my depression, but I took on a clientand at the start of January I sat down to the keyboard and wrote.

I now write, and get a little better, every day. About 500 words a day between blogging and the YouTube video descriptions.

I make no excuses, I just bloody DO IT.

A few weeks ago I added a Rumble channel, and began posting there. A couple weeks ago I started doing one to each of YouTube and Rumble.

Now it’s more like 700 words, every day.

And every day I get a little better, a little faster, and I’m doing client work.

That’s all it takes, pressure and time.
