You’re Willing to Change, Want the Change, and Willing to Pay the Price. Now What?

So, now what?

That’s the key question, isn’t it? You want the change, you’re willing to change, and to pay the price, so now what?

Now comes the hard part, accepting the guarantee of failure.

What?

Read it again, I just told you, you’re going to fail. You’re going to fail in your process, you’re going to fail in your goals. You’re going to fail in your change.

You’re. Going. To. Fail.

  • Expect it.
  • Accept it.
  • Plan for it.

because failure is a part of the process.

I began my turn away from engineering 7 years ago. Seven years of failure, given that I still make my living in engineering.

But here’s the thing. Although I’ve failed, repeatedly, each failure has been a learning experience.

  1. I’ve learned skills that move me toward my goal.
  2. I’ve learned what not to do.

I had a yoga teacher who talked about “failing forward.” Each failure moves you closer to your goal, each failure is an experience moving you away from what you want to leave behind.

So embrace it.

Embrace failure.
